Ras Consult is an independent consultation service owned by Marius Ras (CEO) and Herman Ras (E Tech). Herman is currently in his final year of studies in Electrical & Electronic Engineering at the University of Stellenbosch.
Marius graduated as a Mechanical Engineer (B.Eng Mech) in 1983 at the University of Stellenbosch and started his professional career as a registered Professional Engineer at the Department of Agricultural Engineering at Stellenbosch.
His Research and Development field was focused on the Principles of Application of Chemical and Biological Agents in Horticulture and Broad Acre farming.
In 1991 he acquired his Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering at the same university, with main subjects on Advanced Mathematics and Fluid Dynamics. His thesis delved into the interaction between air flow, atomized liquid and natural tree structures, and the initial research into air momentum and air velocity profile impact on deposition in tree structures.
After 10 years in research, where novel new techniques of calibration of machinery for better efficiency has been developed and accepted as the norms in the industry (Tree Row Volume, Optimized Droplet Spectrum, Air Momentum balancing, etc..), Marius went into the Agricultural mechanization business, importing the then latest technology from DEGANIA in air assisted sleeve boom sprayers in a quest to improve the efficiency of application in broad acre crops and vegetables.
During 25 years in business in Agricultural machinery, new and exciting technologies were developed, patented and commercialized, amongst other the SYNCROFLOW, EVENFLOW, VAM (Variable Air Momentum) and RAMP (Remote Application Management Protocol) technologies, impacting hugely on recovery efficiency of chemical and biological agents on the target, thus improving the expected crop quality and yield, and at the same time reducing environmental impacts due to drift and run off.
In 2020, after retiring from the corporate environment, Ras Consult (Pty) Ltd was registered as a business focusing on the further research and development into the improvement of spray application technology.
The first and foremost objective was to develop technology that would enable the ordinary user of spray equipment to scientifically and accurately MEASURE the DEPOSITION EFFICIENCY of the FORMULATION on NATURAL SURFACES.
DROPSIGHT® was developed, patented and commercialized as a direct result of this work. Please refer to www.dropsight.ag.
We now have the tools to measure spray deposition in field, and the quantification of the deposition efficiency of the formulation has opened the possibility to make a huge difference in improved biological outcomes, reduced losses and optimized crop quality, quantity and cost of production.
Better crop quality, better profit, less risk, less environmental impact – measure, do not guess!
